Introduction to Journalism

I could not imagine I would go from being part of the Creative Writers Alliance, to a student journalist. I was given the opportunity to write at The Oracle at the University of South Florida with no experience, just my passion for writing.

My Experience

I’ve had the pleasure of working in radio with both WUSF and WMNF. Story telling through audio was ear opening. Now, I get to try something new and get people through their appetite, writing for Creative Loafing.

Creative Loafing Tampa, Intern Dec. 2024- present

  • Produces several food blogs a week, assignments.

  • Pitches freelance stories on the local Tampa Bay scene.

WMNF, news freelancer Sept. 2024- present 

  • Produces web articles, accompanied by an audio story. 

  • Sources stories throughout the greater Tampa Bay region.

WUSF NPR, radio news intern May – Aug. 2024

  • Covered the Tampa Bay area in audio and web stories.

  • Broke news, including the removal of flags from the USF St. Petersburg campus.

  • Edited and assigned stories to correspondents.

  • Published at least eight stories weekly, including news and features. 

  • Led coverage of campus protests, hunger strike, and presidential rally.

  • Used public records for breaking news and in-depth reporting.

  • Focused coverage of legislation impacted USF’s community.
